Water is one of the most vital natural elements on our planet. It nourishes, revitalizes and supports the ecosystems of millions of organisms. Without it, the cannabis plant (and most other living creatures) would not exist, and therefore using it properly is crucial. A balanced combination of the proper nutrients, ample and timely watering, the right medium, and a healthy light source is necessary.
Ace The Grow is here to help! Keep reading for some key points in proper water filtration and management.
Why Should I Filter My Water?
Clean water is a luxury. Our parents often told us not to drink tap water out of fear of contaminants and toxins; the same goes for your cannabis plants. As technology has advanced in recent years, more and more homes have implemented digital and mechanical water filters to combat this threat.
Whether you own a Brita in your home, or choose to purchase bottled water, the benefits of water filtration should also extend to your burgeoning grow.
Perhaps the most important reason to filter your water is to remove the large quantities of chlorine that are routinely present. If not cleaned up properly, this chlorine-infused water can shock the plants and stunt their growth. Be sure to install a water filtration system such as the Chlorine Snatcher into your water supply.
If you cannot install a water filtration system, have no fear! By allowing your water to sit out for 24 hrs, you will air out most of the unwanted chemicals and will then be ready to feed your plants.
How Much Should I Water During the Vegetative Cycle?
Your plants strengthen themselves during the ‘vegging’ stage. Because the different cycles of cannabis growth require different conditions, it is important to understand that certain factors will vary. Heat and humidity levels should be higher during the vegetative stage. Be sure to provide ample water for your young plants, but not so much as to cause root rot. Any noticeable limpness (due to under watering) in the limbs of the plants indicates shock and is extremely harmful to growth.
How Much Should I Water During the Flowering Cycle?
The standard two month flowering cycle for most strains is also crucial to their final output. Harvests that are well monitored throughout that time period will surely put a smile on the face of any hard-working grower. Getting to that goal, however, depends on keeping your plants’ medium at a constant state of wetness.
If you are using 10-gallon pots (another standard for flowering) your best bet is to stick to a 30 second watering each time. Use a stop-watch to avoid mistakes. Never, ever overwater!
Importance of pH Management
Growing cannabis is all about speaking the language of the plants. In order for them to be able to translate and implement the nutrients you feed them, you need to be sure that you’re both communicating in the same tongue. What we mean by this is that your cannabis needs the proper pH level (ideally 5.7) before it can properly absorb the nutrient-filled water.
By paying close attention to your watering, you’ll undoubtedly add quantity and quality to your buds.
