Optimization: Nutrient Measuring Tools

November 28, 2018

The science of indoor cannabis cultivation is one that involves order, cleanliness, and accuracy. Resourceful growers who pay close attention to these three things will surely develop a seamless system for their harvests. Measuring nutrients properly is at the forefront of this concept.

Ace The Grow is here to help you streamline your garden’s cycles through optimization. Whether your concern is space, budget, time or simply convenience, there are ways to make sure your efforts as a grower are the most efficient they can be. Choosing and utilizing the right measuring tool (or probe) is crucial.

Keep reading for an exclusive Ace The Grow guide to probes that will surely enhance your grow!

The Basics:

First, let’s go over some key terms related to probes:

PPM, or parts-per-million is the unit of measurement for nutrients.

pH, refers to the acidity levels in your water. Generally the ideal pH level for cannabis is 5.7 pH.

Hanna Groline HI981420 Nutrient Monitor

For small to mid-sized growers with a slightly bigger budget, there are new options on the market that optimize all your measuring needs into one easy to use device. Products such as the Hanna Groline Nutrient Monitor have the 3 essentials (Ph level, Nutrient Level, & Water Temperature) on full display at all times.

Whether your reservoir is small or large, this device will provide high-quality measurement at all times. In addition to this, the Nutrient Monitor tracks and stores the results of your measurements for every 15 minutes for 30 days. Responsible growers would do well to keep track of their findings.

Bluelab PPM Pen

Next, for smaller growers with a less of a budget we recommend the Bluelab PPM Pen for quality nutrient measurement. This device, although just as accurate as the Nutrient Monitor, is more of an on-the-spot probe rather than one that tracks your reservoir over time.

For a sense of how nutrient-rich your water is, simply hold the probe in your hand and then dip it in the water, making sure to mix steadily while doing so. An uneven and unmixed reservoir will give false readings and therefore negatively alter your solution.

Milwaukee pH Meter pH600 AQ

Finally, another great device for small to mid-sized growers is the standalone Milwaukee pH Meter.

Use a pH control kit to move levels up or down, as needed.

This easy to use probe is an affordable substitute for other high-end devices. Coupled with the Bluelab PPM Pen, the ph Meter completes the essentials necessary for proper nutrient measurement.

Calibration

It is of utmost importance to make sure you calibrate your pH reader using the appropriate calibration solutions. These solutions will be included with your pH reader pen. With continuous use and after time, these devices go off kilter so it is important to keep them on track.

Ace the Grow is here to help you make the most out of your grow. By paying close attention to the essentials of modern cannabis cultivation, passionate growers will continue to thrive and their harvests will benefit.
